In this #short_n_shreddy lesson we take a look at how you can use the Harmonic Minor scale to create tension over a V chord in a less common way.
Typically in the key of A minor you would play A Harmonic Minor (A B C D E F G#) over the key's V7 chord, E7, to create tension to resolve back to an Am chord.
Try this instead, play a Harmonic Minor a 1/2 step above the V7 chord e.g F Harmonic Minor over our E7 in A minor. This is a mode of Harmonic Minor that brings in some cool tension notes over that V7 chord e.g F Harmonic Minor F G Ab Bb C Db E relative to the root E gives b9 #9 3 b5 #5 13 intervals.
