In this Island In The Sun guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this smash hit by Weezer note-for-note.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
We will start the lesson with that instantly recognizable riff that is being played by Rivers Cuomo. It uses simple triad shapes across the 1-3 string set. He is then joined by Brian Bell playing fuller versions of these chords on acoustic.
I will take you through each section of the song and demonstrate both parts for each section.
This includes Rivers Cuomo's nice melodic solo!
Quick note! If you check out some more recent Weezer live performances, you might see them playing this song with a capo. Well, for some reason, these later live performances have them playing "Island In The Sun" a whole-step higher than that of the original recording. However, I will be teaching it in the original key, so no need for a capo.
