In this MasterThatRiff! lesson we're looking at how to play Ship of Fools by Robert Plant with Doug Boyle on guitar.
Taken from Robert Plant's 4th solo album, Now and Zen, this riff showcases Doug Boyle's memorable playing adding a pop fusion vibe with his crystalline and sparse guitar parts. At that time Doug Boyle had been more interested in experimental jazz and fusion and recorded his parts for the album in more of a session capacity before eventually becoming part of the touring band. He took influence from session players such as Alan Murphy, Phil Palmer and Ian Benson, hearing how guitar parts were being put together in the 80s to come up with his own parts.
